Ellis L. Marsalis III, a Louisiana native, is a photographer and poet who has made
Baltimore City home for more than 25 years. A graduate of New York University
with a degree in photography, his first photo-narrative was published as
thaBloc: words, photographs and baltimore city in black, white and gray. His work
is in the permanent collections at the Baltimore Museum of Art, Ogden Museum of
Southern Art and The African-American Museum in Philadelphia. The Smithsonian
Institution commissioned a new exhibition of thaBloc to expand representations of
the east side neighborhoods. His latest project, Masters of the Edifice, is his first
foray into outdoor exhibitions.
